Sox Strike Back With 6-2 Win
The players in the first base dugout came out ready to retain their 1st place standing last night. Red Sox defeat the surging Rays 6-2 thanks to solid pitching by Jon Lester, Matt Thornton, Junichi Tazawa & Koji Uehara. Just like the night before, it was a well pitched game on both sides, but this time the Sox pitchers were better. I thought about Brandon Workman only giving up 2 runs over 6 innings the night before - just like Lester last night - except he got a loss. Baseball is funny like that. A 3-run bottom of the 8th helped add a cushion. Stephen Drew finally came up with a big 2-out RBI single to right to make it 4-2. Then the master of infield hits, Jose Iglesias, got a big hop over Longoria's head that plated 2 more runs. We'll take it! Tonight's game will feature Price & Doubront. I am interested to see how Doubront reacts to being depended upon now for another quality start.
