Red Sox Take Series With O's
Just when things are looking the darkest, this team fights back. The Red Sox had dropped 2 out of 3 at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Sox were knocked out of first place. They drop the 1st game in Baltimore behind their best pitcher of late, John Lackey. And just when things could get much worse, what happens? The Sox win the next 2 in Baltimore to take the series & regain 1st place. That's one heck of an effort! Great effort by Jon Lester yesterday in the 5-0 win. Looks like Lester has turned the corner & is pitching at a high level again. David Ortiz goes 4 for 4 with a home run. This a day after he went nutty on a phone box in the dugout. I am tired of reporters who have never played the game saying that Ortiz was selfish when he went off over a terrible strike call & got ejected since the Sox were winning by 5 runs at the time. They don't get it! When something like that happens it is unplanned. As a player, your emotions get the best of you & then it's over. Lou Merloni wouldn't take the bait offered by Michael Felger last night as Lou said he was OK with the Ortiz fit & it happens to all players at some time in their career. Thank you, Lou, for putting a player's perspective on the situation. But back to the bigger point. This Red Sox team has met every challenge thus far during the 2013 season. Every time it looks like things are going south, they pick themselves back up. It's a team that fans can get behind & a team that will be in it to the end. I for one appreciate their effort.
