Odds & Ends
Clay Buchholz is off to visit Dr. Andrews for a second opinion on his neck. Maybe a good result will get Buck back on the mound by August for the heat of a stretch run. "Clay" is an appropriate first name as Buck seems to be made of clay the last few years with his injuries. Brandon Workman gets the start tonight against the Rays. If he is anything like his first start, we should be in for a win. Jon Lester gets the nod on Tuesday. He was moved back for more rest due to general fatigue. I bet his energy level would be a lot higher if he was pitching like Felix Doubront or John Lackey. Stephen Drew's return to the lineup has been OK in the field, not so good at the plate. His timing is way off. Perhaps he is a guy that they move at the deadline. Is there anyone out there that the Sox could get without giving up Bogaerts, JBJ, Middlebrooks, etc.? I'm still of the opinion that they give their young guys a chance to play for the big club. I'm not interested in acquiring Michael Young for prospects. Look at Drake Britton, for example. 2 pretty good appearances at the big league so far. Matt Thornton finally delivered a 1-2-3 inning via 3 strikeouts, his 1st clean inning in a Red Sox uniform. Something for him to build off of.
