If the Pittsburgh Pirates or Cincinnati Reds played in the AL East or in several other divisions, they would be in first place. Both teams are 11 & 12 games over .500, winning at a clip of .605. However, the St. Louis Cardinals are streaking out of the blocks with a record of 37-19, a full 18 games over .500. You wouldn't expect the Cards to keep up that pace. An influx of young pitching with timely hitting & good defense has served them well to date. Wouldn't it be interesting if both wild cards came out of the NL Central? Keep an eye on these 3 teams going forward.
