No Ells
A night after his 5 stolen bases in a game Jacoby Ellsbury misses the first 2 games of the Yankees series with a groin pull. It's too bad that an injury occurs now when Ells is getting his offense back on track. He looked like the player of 2011 for a week or so, ever since his walk-off hit against ex-manager Terry Francona's Indians. Let's hope that he is not out too long as we already have Victorino & Middlebrooks trying to make their way back into the lineup this coming week. Give Nava, Gomes & Carp credit for doing an admirable job filling in the outfield holes. Now we have JBJ taking over in CF for Ells & Bradley seems a lot more comfortable at the plate. And let's not forget Iglesias being a vacuum at SS or 3B. It may not be so easy for some of these guys on the DL to get their jobs back. Maybe Stephen Drew will have a mystery injury when Middlebrooks comes back that moves Iglesias over to SS. Nice to have depth that produces.
