Sox 2, Rays 1 in 10 Innings
It was a game dominated by pitchers. Jon Lester & David Price were stingy & gave up only 1 run each with several strikeouts. Both were excellent. David Ross hit a homer to tie the game 1-1. In the end I think Farrell wanted this game more than Madden. Farrell used his closer in the 9th in a tie situation. Farrell also had the guts to pull Hanrahan after he walked 2 batters. Uehara came in & cleaned up the mess without allowing a run. Meanwhile, Madden left Fernando Rodney watching the action from the bullpen when things unravelled for the Rays in the 10th. A single by Ellsbury, a stolen base, an errant throw by the Rays catcher moving Ells to 3rd, then an infield hit by Victorino sealed the win. A 1-run win in your last at bat will do a lot for team confidence.
