NRA 54, USA 46
That was the final vote in the U.S. Senate earlier this week on a watered-down gun control bill that would have expanded background checks to include sales at gun shows. This bill had bi-partisan support & many of the families from the CT tragedy made the trip to DC for this important vote. 90% of the American people are in favor of expanded background check. BUT 54 U.S. senators just could "pull the trigger" so to speak & break away from their lobbyist money thrown at them by the NRA. Both President Obama & Gabby Giffords gave scathing reviews to the senate, saying in part that it was a deliriction of duty. One woman who started a non-profit group after her son died in gun violence mentioned that the best way to react is to retire these senators who voted against the bill. Great idea! It's time for the American populace to use the power of their vote to effect change. I mention this vote as a background to the killing of the MIT security guard, a 26-year old, who tried to prevent a robbery & car jacking pulled off by the Boston bombings culprits, but he was gunned down in the process. Let's not let the NRA hold us hostage. Let's use our power as voters to make a change in Washington. If not after the recent violence in CT or in Boston, when?
