Ben Cherington told a radio show yesterday that he expects the Red Sox to have one of the higher payrolls in baseball in 2013. He said the Sox will compete to keep arbitration-eligible players, add through free agency & take on salary via trades. With only $45 million committed to 2013 as of today that's a big statement & it indicates that there will be several additions to the roster in the near future. Ben needs to add a starting pitcher, corner outfielders, a first baseman & a shortstop. Please, Ben, just no long-term deals for Josh Hamilton or Zack Greinke.
