Ortiz Done This Year
David Ortiz confirmed that he will not push his ailing Achilles tendon to return to the Red Sox lineup this year. That's a bit surprising since he is a free agent once again & Big Papi may have wanted to prove to potential suitors that he was 100% healthy going into the off-season. After a decision on next year's manager, the Ortiz situation, as well as Ellsbury's status, will be 2 keys for management to address early on. The Sox definitely need Ortiz' bat in 2013 to solidify the middle of the order. #34 will probably get a 1-year offer with a club option for 2014 or just arbitration like this past year for one more year. Either way Big Papi will be a Red Sox in 2013. He will get more money from the Sox than anywhere else.

Ideally it will be an incentive laden contract, with the bulk of his $$ coming upon reaching various goals....even if it is stuff like at bats, or games played.
