Tough Loss 10-9

Josh Beckett was terrible through 5+ innings giving up 8 runs & 3 HR's. Texas pitchers Harrison & Oswalt were just as bad. In the end it came down to 1 extra sac fly by Texas that made the difference. It would have been a great comeback win had Middlebrooks or Lavarnway been able to tie the game in the 9th with Cody Ross on 2nd, but both K'ed against closer Joe Nathan. The boo birds were out in force as Beckett left the mound in the 6th after his poor outing. Just an average pitching performance would have gotten a win today, but it was not to be. Another game off the schedule. Another lost series at home. You can hear the tick, tick, tick of time starting to run out in 2012.

Using the "mathmatics" you spoke of yesterday, I think they have 50 games left. If they have 50 games left, I would expect the team to win 4-5 on the days that Lester & Becket pitch, if they hold true to form. On the days when the rest of the staff pitch, they may win 60% of their games, which is 18 games. This is not eve .500. Not enough to move ahead of ALL of the teams that are ahead of them.
