Finally! Someone in ownership had the fortitude to make a bold move. And bold doesn't even begin to characterize this blockbuster move of addition by subtraction. Adrian Gonzalez, the centerpiece of the deal, would go to the Dodgers along with the salary dump of Josh Beckett & Carl Crawford also going to LA. Nick Punto was thrown in the deal for good measure. In return, the Sox get James Loney for the rest of the year & 4 minor leaguers - 2 of them young pitchers. If this goes through, the Sox get much needed salary mobility to make more deals in the off-season & start over in 2013. And it also changes the dynamic & chemistry of the clubhouse.
