Back to Mathematics

Last year at this time the 2011 Boston Red Sox were the best team in baseball with a 99% chance of making the playoffs. Even though the Sox lost last night 6-3, even though they are only 5-5 in their last 10 games, even though a malais has overshadowed this team & prevented them from putting a run of wins together to date, I am now back to the time of year where I look at the math. If we learned nothing from last year, we should remember that it all comes down to who's hot in September. Tampa Bay & St. Louis got hot last September & St. Louis ended up winning it all. The math says that the Sox are 5 games behind the A's for the 2nd wild card. I'm shedding my Michael Felger approach to Red Sox bashing everyday. For the remaining 7 weeks of the season I am deciding to stay positive until the math says the Sox are out. The Sox have done just enough to stay alive to date. Let's play out the season & see what happens. No team has won anything yet. Sorry, Felger, you're on your own.
