Trades That Make Sense
If I'm Ben Cherington & the Red Sox, here's my best solution for fixing the team this year & next year. 1) Trade Lester & Ellsbury to Seattle for Felix Hernandez, Brandon League & 2 minor league arms. Lester & Ellsbury are both from the Northwest. We are losing Ells after next year anyways & I'd take Hernandez over Lester anyday. 2) Trade Josh Beckett to the Dodgers or any NL team for cash considerations & a few pitching prospects. Someone will take on half or more of Beckett's $16 million salary & we get $8 million or more back to use on signing other guys. My starting rotation for the remainder of 2012 would then look like this: Hernandez, Buchholz, Doubront, Aceves & Morales. Andrew Bailey & Brandon League can close in Aceves spot. Morales goes back into the starting rotation. In 2013 you trade John Lackey in the off season or you slot him in the #4 or #5 spot until you can move him, putting Morales or Aceves back in the pen. I think we would have more success & a better clubhouse.
