Broken Bats Still A Problem

In the first few weeks of Spring Training games in 2012 there are still too many broken bats. MLB did a study in the past, but - as far as I know - no results were ever released.

It's just a matter of time before a pitcher, catcher, hitter, infielder, umpire or fan is severely injured by a flying piece of bat. So far I've seen a broken bat land straight up in the grass between home & the mound. I've seen a bat fragment stuck in the netting behind home plate, saving a fan. And I've seen a first-baseman complete a double play, unaware that a bat head was flying towards him & it landed a few feet behind him.

Whatever the MLB study found about why bats break a plan to safeguard players, umpires & fans should be considered before a major injury occurs.
