The Red Sox website is quoting Tim Wakefield's agent as saying the 45 year old will pitch again in 2012 - maybe in Boston, but definitely somewhere. His agent is hoping to work out a deal with the Red sox, but supposedly other teams has called about Wake's services.
Personally, my thought is that the Red Sox are turning a new page - out with the old & in with the new if you will. I think that the Sox could bring Wake back as a half-year pitcher to give starters a rest - maybe take a turn off - in the dog days of July & August. Other than that, Wake disappointed so much in September that it's difficult to see him in a full-time role as a starter. Because of walks & steals Wake is not a candidate for the bullpen either.
I'd like to see Wake take the high road & retire instead of putting the Sox management in this predicament of what to do with an aging, non-performing player with his best years of service behind him.
