The Strange Case of Carl Crawford

A week or so ago the Red Sox website had a top 10 list of things to do for new GM Ben Cherington. One item that caught my eye was to visit with Carl Crawford in the off season & see what the Sox can do to get him to relax & play his usual above-average brand of baseball.

Crawford was anything but his usual self last year. He struggled at the plate mightily. He was not a menance on the bases. He also struggled at times in the field. Who won't remember the last ball of the year that he missed to lose the final game in Baltimore?

With 6 more years remaining on his contract & big money coming his way the Sox organization & the fans are expecting a whole lot more from Carl Crawford. If he can even have an average year, we'd take that. Hit .280, club 20 HR's, steal 30+ bases & play good defense. Any of those numbers would be a big improvement over 2011, a year where he just never got into the rhythm of the season.
