Mike Maddux & Sandy Alomar, Jr. Get A Shot

Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux gets an interview with the Red Sox & Cubs in the coming week. Cleveland's bench coach Sandy Alomar, Jr. also comes in for a talk with the Sox brass. Both are the next two in line for interviews for the manager's position in Beantown.

Maddux pitched for the Sox briefly & has to live in the shadow of his brother Greg who won 300+ games with the Braves. As a pitching coach, like John Farrell, he might be an interesting candidate for the job.

Alomar I don't see being a good fit. A former catcher, he has spent time as a first-base coach for the Indians. He is slated to be the Indians bench coach this year. The other candidates have more experience.

Maddux & Alomar join Machanic & Sveum as interviewees. I would think that Cherington would stop at 5 or 6 interviews since Theo is looking at some of the same candidates for the Cubs & the Cardinals are looking for a manager now too. We might have our new manager before Turkey Day.
