David Ortiz Wants to Stay

David Ortiz wants to remain a member of the Red Sox. Here are the variables to bringing Big Papi back in 2012.

1) Was he one of the entitlement players down the stretch who didn't set the right example in the clubhouse?

2) How much less than $12 million will he accept on a 1-year contract?

3) What is the negative impact to the team of playing Ortiz in the field during interleague games & possibly the World Series?

I think the Sox would like him to return if the asking price is $5 - $6 million. Multi-years or more than that $6 million salary may knock them out of contention.

How would you replace Ortiz & his 30/100? Take part of that $12 million salary & get a better-than-average right-hand hitting outfielder (Cory Hart, for example). Use Youk, Gonzo, Ells, Crawford & Pedroia as revolving DH's to give each player a day off in the field.

For the right price David Ortiz comes back to Boston. With endorsements & other off-field money available to him in Boston he would be crazy not to end his career in Beantown.
