Big Papi has gotten more press talking in October this year than playing in October in past years. Ortiz now says that he doesn't need the drama in Boston any longer & would like to go to a "good" team like the Yankees.
C'mon, David. How utterly stupid do you think the fans in Boston & New York are? Do you think no one sees through this attempt to get a bidding war going for your services in 2012?
Just another example of "it's all about me."
Where was the talk in the clubhouse by a 9-year vet who could have provided some leadership? And how about the childish interruption of Francona's press conference to bitch about an RBI? Maybe a little more work & less talk would have helped Big Papi contribute more than 1 HR & 8 RBI in September. How about talking about that!
Maybe the Red Sox should let Big Papi walk without making him any type of offer for next year. Most NY papers are saying that Ortiz would have to accept a low-ball deal like Eric Chavez or Andruw Jones to join the Yankees. Big Papi would go from a beloved player in Boston to one of the hated - like Johnny Damon. I don't think his restaurant would do too well either.
This reminds me of the movie "Contagion" which I just saw. There must be something in the clubhouse water that infected everyone into developing the disease of individualism over teamwork.
