There was a Big Papi sighting at the World Series last night in St. Louis as David Ortiz won the Roberto Clemente Award for humanitarian service. Big Papi has done a lot for charity in his native Dominican Republic, including a new children's hospital, & he should be commended for his work.
When asked about his Yankee comments Big Papi backed off the rhetoric from earlier last week & said he is still a Red Sox & would like to remain a Red Sox. That's just good PR to keep both teams in the conversation. Remember - it's all about the money.
Vlad Guerrero got a 1-year contract from Baltimore last year for about $7 million. Isn't that about what the Sox should offer Ortiz? Or maybe we take the Ortiz money to help ship away John Lackey & give a newcomwer like right-hand hitting Ryan Lavarnway a chance to balance out the lineup?
I'm OK this off-season with anything that happens - as long as we put 9 guys out there in 2012 that try hard & give it their all everyday. No more prima donas. We've been there, done that.
