Adrian Gonzalez - Year in Review

While God may not have wanted the Red Sox to win per Adrian, his first season in a Red Sox uniform was a tale of 2 halfs - the half before the home run derby & the half afterwards.

Overall, from a statistical viewpoint, Adrian put up the offensive numbers that you thought he would - about 30 homers & about 120 RBI. He also hit for average, producing over 200 hits like teammate Jacoby Ellsbury. Good year, right?

But stats don't tell the whole story. In the 2nd half of this season Adrian was not the same power hitter. And while he continued to chip-in hits at a .300 or so clip there were no big hits, no big RBI down the stretch drive in August or September. That's where his stats are deceiving.

It wouldn't surprise me if Adrian got follow-up surgery on his shoulder after this season. No one can go from the best swing in baseball in the 1st half to so many swing & misses in the 2nd half. Like Dice-K & the World Baseball Classic, Adrian needs to be a non-participant in the All-Star home run derby from now on.

Remember the saying about stats - they are for players who can't win. Let's focus on T-E-A-M next year & winning. The stats will take care of themselves.
