The Sox got a subpar performance from John Lester, but could muster only 1 run off James Shields & they lose again 9-1 to get swept in Tampa Bay. Maybe it would have been better to only lose 2-1 if Lester was on, but a loss is a loss. 5 in a row now.
A much needed day off occurs on Monday. Red Sox fans can turn their attention to Monday Night Football with the Patriots & Dolphins going at it on national TV.
On Tuesday the Sox start a 9-day, 10-game homestand against the Jays, Rays & O's. To me this is the make-or-break part of the season. They need a 7-3 or 8-2 homestand to get back on track in this post-season race. Otherwise, they will be watching Tampa Bay or Anaheim as the AL Wild Card. And this would be a monumental collapse for the Red Sox players, coaches & management.
It's time for all the knicked up players to suck it up & get out there & play. This homestand is the season - period. A repeat of their last 10 games with a 2-8 record & the post-season will be gone. No more resting players. No more giving an extra day off to be sure a player is 100%. It time to put your best 9 out there. McDonald, Aviles, Wakefield, Miller & Reddick are not the answers. Get Beckett & Bedard back into the rotation. Get Youk back out there. Yes, I'm going to say it, get Drew back out there. Let's get aggressive with Buchholz as well.
It time for all hands on deck for the last 16 games.

After his base running debacle last week when he ended a game by getting thrown out trying to steal second, Aviles gets picked off first yesterday. Is there someone talking to this kid? On my team he would be talking to the pine!
