What a weekend in New York!
Saturday's 9-1 loss was embarassing for Jon Lester. He better find a way to stay ahead of batters in the count & stop walking people.
Sunday's game 1 loss 6-2 was embarassing for veterans Tim Wakefield & Carl Crawford. I think the experiment of Crawford batting 2nd is a failure. Jacoby Ellsbury's 2 homers were the only blemishes for AJ Burnett.
Going into Sunday night's 2nd game of the day, the Sox offense had only scored 3 runs in 2 games & the Sox starters had continued their streak of getting behind early & taking an early exit. Momentum was not with the Sox & another loss would put them in a tie with Tampa Bay.
Then a miracle happened. John Lackey pitched a decent game. He didn't get rattled after 3 1st inning run & he contained the damage. Even J.D. Drew appeared like a ghost & contributed an RBI hit after 2 months on the DL. Then Jacoby Ellsbury hit a 3-run homer in the 14th inning that won the game 7-4. Red Sox win & keep a 1-game lead over Tampa with 3 to go.
Just maybe the Sox can build on this win with 3 games & 3 days left to the season.

And to think that back in June some nit wit radio talk host was promoting trading Ells to Seattle for Hernandez!
