John Lackey & Josh Beckett traded places these last 2 nights. It was Josh Beckett getting 7 runs of support & earning a much needed victory over the Evil Empire 7-5. Once Beckett got the lead in the 6th he came back out to the mound & shutdown the Yankees 1-2-3 in the 7th. Bard the 8th. Pap the 9th. Game over.
Nice to see that David Ortiz still brings fear to Yankee pitchers & Yankee manager Joe Girardi. Girardi intentionally walks Big Papi, then gets burned by next batter Jed Lowrie. In his next at-bat Ortiz takes a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall. I guess that makes Joe 0-2.
Huge home run by Jacoby Ellsbury in the 6th to put the Sox ahead for good. And Ells hit it off lefty specialist Boone Logan. His power numbers are off the chart this year.
Wow! Jason Varitek comes up with a 3 RBI night. He clunks a ground ball just fair inside the 3B bag to score Reddick on a hit & run. Then he knocks a 2-run homer in the 8th to put the game out of reach. I saw his homer & said pigs must be flying. But we'll sure take it.
Red Sox-Yankees is like a chess match. It's like 2 armies trying to out-manuever each other. So far we've each won a battle. I pick Lester to win the series tonight.
