Taking into account the pitching matchups, my crystal ball tells me that we need to win tonight behind Erik Bedard & we need to win on Wednesday behind Josh Beckett. I don't like the matchups on Tuesday & Thursday for Lackey & Wake. A split in Texas would be an acceptable outcome against a tough Rangers team. The Sox will be battling 100 degree temps as well.
This series "could" feature the return of David Ortiz & Jacoby Ellsbury. The operative word is "could" since the Red Sox staff is very conservative with injuries to their stars. The Sox will need one or both players to battle their way through a tough 4-game series with the AL Champs. 4 losses could evaporate most of the Sox lead in the Wild Card to a resurging Tampa Bay Rays. If Ortiz & Ellsbury play, it will be an indication of how important the Sox management feels these games are to making the playoffs.
