It's been quite a 3-day stretch in Arlington, Texas for the Boston Red Sox. 30 runs later the Sox leave the Lone Star State with 3 wins in a row.
Andrew Miller pitched a very impressive game, along with Aceves & Wheeler, to shutout the Texas offense on just 3 hits. Miller gave the Sox 6+ innings & proved that he may be the answer to next year's #5 starter. His walks still bother me, but he has been better in his last few starts.
The Sox offense used the long ball last night. Adrian Gonzalez whacked 2 more HR's last night, giving him 5 in 3 days & moving his RBI total to 100. He certainly gets them in bunches. David Ortiz took a 97 mph fastball into the right field stands. And Jarrod Saltalamacchia went opposite field for a 2-run dinger. That was more than enough to support the Sox pitchers.
Due to Hurricane Irene we get a crazy weekend of baseball with the Oakland A's who took 2 out of 3 in New York. Friday night's game remains as scheduled with Wake trying for #200 again. Saturday becomes a doubleheader with games at 12 noon & 5:00 PM. Sunday becomes an off-day.
Speaking of our friends in New York, I know the buzz is all about the 3 grand slams in a 22-9 win yesterday afternoon. My take is focused on the 9 runs the A's scored against the Yankee pitchers. That kind of pitching isn't going to get your far in the playoffs, especially when your offense faces much better pitching & won't be scoring 22. I just had to put a Red Sox spin on it!
