It wasn't pretty, but the Sox offense struggled through a tough night to get another win in Minnesota 4-3. Darnell McDonald hit a 2-run homer to get the Sox on the board. Hard to believe that a 30-foot roller by Big Papi, mishandled by the Twins pitcher, was the difference in this game. Between 9 walks & errors in the field the Twins lost this game more than the Red Sox won it.
Erik Bedard pitched well enough through the first 5, giving up only 2 runs while walking 4 & striking out 6. Matt Albers gave up a run in the 6th for the 3rd time in his last 4 outings. Franklin Morales could only get 2 outs in the 7th before giving way to Daniel Bard who cleaned up the mess & pitched a 1-2-3 8th. Then Pap finished off the 9th for another save.
My question for the night: Where was Carl Crawford going on the Varitek RBI single? The ball was right in front of him & he assumed the throw was going home. Instead, he makes the final out in a rundown. Not smart baserunning for a guy who is suppose to be a good baserunner.
Lots of things are being overlooked now because the Red Sox are winning. If they weren't, we would be talking about no production with the bases loaded a whole lot more.
