Tim Wakefield is closing in on 200 wins. He went the first 7 last night, giving up only 3 runs, & let the offense help him to a 6-4 victory. Sox beat the Jays 2 out of 3 to take the series. They also gain a game on the Yankees who lost in Cleveland thanks to old friend Justin Masterson.
Even without Adrian Gonzalez, both Jacoby Ellsbury & Kevin Youkilis powered up the offense by getting 3 hits a piece, including one homer each. Even J.D. Drew contributed to the offense which is a good sign.
It was noticeable to me on a ground ball last night that the range of Marco Scutaro is decreasing. As dependable as he has been over the past few years, it is evident that Scutaro's first step into the hole is not what it use to be. I don't think that's news to anyone, but it does mean that a new shortstop, maybe Iglesius or Navarro, is on the horizon. Just imagine when the Yankees move Jeter out of short!
Fill-in Andrew Miller gets to start the series against the O's tonight. 3 out of 4 against Baltimore would be a nice finish to the unofficial first half.
