The Sox offense erupted for 6 runs in the 7th, just in time to salvage a win in Game 1 in Houston last night. Prior to the 7th inning, it was looking pretty bleak for the Sox who scored only 1 run off the Houston starter who fans 10 along the way.
Dustin Pedroia had the at-bat of the night after arguing a pitch called a strike with home plate umpire Laz Diaz. Pedroia hit the next pitch for a 2-run single to right & turned around on his way to first to bark more at Diaz over the previous pitch. That's what we need, a little intensity.
Too bad Tim Wakefield couldn't make it through the first 6 full innings. He missed out on a win by 2 outs which Dan Wheeler picked up for him. The bullpen of Wheeler, Albers, Morales, Bard & Papelbon shutdown the Astros the rest of the way.
Last night's win finishes the 1st half of the season with 47 wins & 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees in the AL East standings. I'm looking for better results in the 2nd half as players like Beckett, Crawford & Buchholz get healthy for the stretch run.
