Unfortunately, this may be the recipe for Sox wins, at least for the near future. With guys like Wake, Weiland & Miller pitching a full series in Baltimore you can expect the O's to score runs. We just have to score more.
And 8 runs in the 8th inning by the Sox offense last night put a 7-7 game out of reach. It was a combination of walks, singles & doubles that saw Baltimore die a slow death in the 8th as the Sox batted around. It was like a cat that catches a mouse & bats it around before ending the misery. Several Baltimore pitchers were ineffective against the Sox lineup. I was surprised that Buck Showalter brought in a kid just called up from triple-A to face a bases loaded, 1-out situation & it didn't fare well for the young pitcher. I don't believe he recorded an out.
Dan Wheeler got the win with 2+ innings of scoreless relief work. Wheeler has quiet become a more dependable bullpen guy since his return from the DL. We do need a lot of bullpen arms to backup the starters in place for another week until Lester gets back on Monday. Buchholz is taking baby steps towards returning, but is still weeks away.
Win anyway you can. This week is all about the bats.
