It was great to see the Sox big lefty back on the mound. Lester showed a few signs of rust, but overall had a good outing, giving up just one run over 5 + innings.
He will be scheduled to pitch in Chicago against Ozzie & Co. on Saturday. That will be a better challenge than the Royals. Getting Lester ramped up on his normal 5 day schedule can only help the Sox going forward. Kyle Weiland was optioned back to Pawtucket yesterday. His time as Lester's replacement is over.
Lester joins Beckett, Lackey, Wake & Andrew Miller as the 5 starters for the remainder of July. Clay Buchholz should return to mound duties by mid-August, assuming no setbacks in his rehab program.
