Jeter is 3,003 & Counting

Derek Jeter did it in front of his home crowd. He also did it in high fashion, going 5 for 5 & hitting a homer for # 3000.

Say what you want, but I admire the body of work & consistency in play from year to year to year. Averaging 200 hits for 15 years is no easy fete as just 28 players in the history of baseball have been able to achieve the elusive 3,000 hit plateau.

Jeter is a throw-back. He plays the game right. You will never hear an opposing player say he didn't run out a fly ball or routine ground ball. He plays hard & he plays to win. A modern equivalent would be Pedroia or Youkilis on the Sox. Jeter has just done it longer.

It may be appropriate for Jeter to retire after this season before the Yankees have to move him out of shortstop. Even if he stays as a DH or outfielder, Jeter is going into the Hall of Fame. He has had a great career.
