I like the idea of returning to a simpler format. 15 teams in the AL. 15 teams in the NL. No divisions. The top 4 or 5 in each division make the playoffs. Each game in the 162 game season is as important as the next one.
Remember when teams from the AL West or NL West would make the playoffs with a sub .500 record while teams with 90 wins would sit out? That wouldn't happen any longer. You could see 3 teams from the AL East, for example, and none from the West.
I also like the idea of a 5th team making the playoffs to play a winner-take-all elimination game against the 4th place team. Currently, the 4th team or wild card gets the same rights as a division winner. No penalty for resting players or lining up pitchers for the playoffs. The 1-game playoff would spur teams in that 4th position to continue playing out the final games to move into the 3 spot. It would also reward the top 3 teams for finishing higher.
What's your thoughts about realignment? Again, I like it.

You would have to require each team to play each other the same number of games. Currently, the AL East plays each other something like 19 times, while playing the west less that half of that number. A good division can beat each other up, while a mediocre team in a poor dividion can end up with a better record. I like the realignment as long as we compare apples to apples.
