Great Story - Tommy Hottovy

The Sox latest call-up to the bullpen is quite an interesting story. At 29 years old Hottovy is finally getting his chance in the bigs.

Bob Neumier summarized the story of Hottovy on The Baseball Show last Saturday. Hottovy underwent Tommy John surgery at the young age of 24 & effectively missed 2 seasons of pitching. He was thinking of quitting baseball, but his wife who was 8 months pregnant told him to persevere through life in the minors a little longer.

Portland & Pawtucket continued to be stops along his minor league career. The call came from the big club when Rich Hill went down with an elbow strain. Hottovy has reinvented himself, a la Rich Hill, as a lefty specialist who drops down from the side. Thus far, he has 3 appearances for the Red Sox & has allowed no runs.

A good story like Tommy Hottovy is best shared. Thank you, Bob Neumier.
