Can Old Yankees Hold Onto First?

The next time we talk about a Red Sox - Yankees series it will be the first weekend in August. The standings could look a lot different by then.

However, this middle-of-the-week 3 game series in June is for first place in the AL East. As long as neither team gets swept, only one game difference will occur in the standings. But let's not forget that the Sox did sweep the Yankees on their last visit to New York.

A-Rod, Jeter, Mariano, Posada, Colon, Garcia & others -- the Yankees are an old team with a lot of old-moving parts that could breakdown at anytime. Throw-in some bad blood between Yankee players & Girardi just for more intrigue. I think it's the Yankees, more than the Red Sox, that have something to prove this week.

Freddy Garcia goes in Game 1 tonight. He's the weak link to tee-off on & get the first win. Then we can relax in the final 2 games & hope for a split, or another sweep.

Here's hoping Lester will do well tonight. He has been shakey in his last 4 or 5 starts.
