If James Shields can do it, Josh Beckett can do it too. Both star pitchers hurled complete game shutouts for their teams as the Red Sox & Rays split their first two out of three.
Beckett was more dominating last night as he 1-hit the Rays over 9 innings. The only hit by the Rays was a cheap infield roller down 3rd, a swinging bunt if you will. But that's the way the ball bounces sometimes.
Kevin Youkilis powered up for a huge 3-run jack to left in the 7th. After Dustin Pedroia tripled off the right-field wall the Rays intentionally walked Adrian Gonzalez to get to Youk who had had a miserable series at the plate up until then. Youk promptly parked a fastball into the stands. That was all the support Josh Beckett needed.
The finale should be another good matchup of young pitchers as David Price & Clay Buchholz go for the series win tonight.
