Get out the brooms! The Sox took advantage of a slupping Yankees offense & a team in disarray to complete a 3-game sweep last night in New York 7-5. The win put the Sox at 20-20 & allows them to reach .500 for the first time this year.
While it is great to reach .500 after 40 games you can't look too far ahead or behind. The Sox are 1 game behind the Yankees who are 20-18. Toronto is also at 20-20. And Baltimore is 19-20. The AL East is packed like sardines in a can. The leader, Tampa Bay, starts a series with the Yankees tonight.
It was the long ball that spelled the demise of the Yankees pitchers last night. Freddy Garcia gave up a 3-run bomb to Kevin Youkilis to tie the game at 4. Big Papi hit a solo shot to put the Sox ahead 5-4. And yes, a Red Sox catcher, Saltie hit a solo shot off of Joba to ice the win.
Great weekend in New York. Now it's time to make some hay on a 7-game home stand.
