One thing I've learned in coaching. You praise in public & you criticize in private. I guess the Yankees players, coaches & management don't agree.
Go back to Spring Training & the public spectacle that was Derek Jeter's contract renewal. The Yankees brass laid out their current version of Joe Dimaggio to dry over how much & how long they should pay Jeter to remain a Yankee.
The Posada event could have been handled much better on both sides. Instead of "telling" a veteran like Posada that he was hitting 9th, wouldn't a brief closed door chat to soften the blow made it an easier transition? And how about Cashman doing an in-game interview on the subject? And then Posada's wife gets involved with a tweet. Way too much public communication.
99% of all coaching problems relate to communication. Any coach out there will tell you the same thing. It appears that the Yankees prefer to communicate in public.
Good for us. More free agents will think twice about New York as a destination stop for their career.
