Bad Lester, Great Gonzo

If you score 6 runs for Jon Lester, he will get you a win 95 times out of 100. Last night was one of those other 5% of games. Lester picked a bad time for a bad outing, walking 5 batters in 5+ innings & giving up 3 first-inning runs. And the 2011 curse of reaching .500 strikes again. The Sox get close once again, but just can't reach that brass ring.

On the other hand, Adrian Gonzalez was a one-man battering ram with 2 opposite field homers. Gonzo has 13 RBI in the month of May & is scorching the ball. Add David Ortiz to the mix who hit a long homer to CF. He is quietly having his best April & May in the last 3 years.

I'm wondering about Tito's decision in the bottom of the 10th to pitch to the Toronto batter with the game-winning run on 3rd & less than 2 out. Wouldn't you have loaded the bases intentionally to set-up a force? With an off-day on Thursday I would've gotten Pap up as well & brought him in to relieve Albers. But that's me.

Maybe it will be sweeter to reach .500 at Yankee Stadium.
