8 runs, 8 hits, 4 walks in 4+ innings. That was the pitching line for Dice-K last night. The loss brings Red Sox Nation closer to the reality of no playoff berth in 2010.
A win in game 2 of this series would have left a faint glimmer of hope that a sweep of the Rays keeps the Sox playoffs chances alive. But a 14-5 pounding leaves no doubt that it's time to start thinking about 2011.
Next year is now.

There was certainly no doubt on the part of the Red Sox that they were looking towards next year. Did you see the pitchers they put in after Dice K.? Richardson, Manuel, Bowden, and Coello! The last two did okay, but with the first two the future looks bleak!
