David Ortiz hit a big 3-run bomb off "Not So Big Game" James Shields to break a 0-0 deadlock which resulted in an 8-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays last night. Every night someone on the Sox roster comes up big & it was Big Papi last night.
John Lackey pitched 7 innings of 1-run ball. Jason Varitek added a big RBI hit. And Bill Hall clocked a homer over the Green Monster for good measure. Just more guys coming through when needed.
The Sox & Yankees are tied for the most wins in the Majors with 47. With a Yankees loss last night the difference in standings is only 1 game between these 2 teams. It should be one heck of a pennant race.
Can the MASH unit of Red Sox players keep up the winning in the 2nd half? I think that these injuries have made the Sox a better team. My answer: Yes.

It was nice to get a good outing from Lackey. Let's hope Dice-K keeps the ball rolling. I agree with you. I love the contributions of these fill-in guys. I am still a little concerned with Okajima. We can't be letting these teams back into games. I am just sitting here with my fingers crossed, waiting for some of our mainstays to get back.
