The Red Sox stranded several runners at 3B & also had 2 thrown out at home (shades of Wendell Kim) in a 9-8 loss to the A's yesterday afternoon. The Sox end up taking 2 out of 3 from Oakland & move onto Baltimore for the weekend.
Here's my question for today. Whatever happened to mowing down the catcher when he blocks your path to the plate? Both McDonald & Martinez had to slide around Suzuki who was in the direct baseline from 3rd to home. If you don't fight for your turf, you lose it.
I guess that's too old school in the modern era of a kinder, gentler, all-players-get-along league. Even before the game, players hugging the opposition before the game still bothers me some.
Bring back Pete Rose.
