Detroit hasn't had a lot to cheer about. The Motor City is still recovering from an economy that was especially hard hit with auto industry layoffs.
But a day after an imperfect Jim Joyce spoiled a perfect game by Tigers pitcher Armando Gallaraga, the fans of Detroit surprised the country by cheering for the umpires on Thursday, in particular Jim Joyce. While there are no "do overs" in baseball the fans of Detroit, management of the Tigers & Gallaraga himself have shown extreme class in their handling of the controversial call.
It's rare today to see people take responsibility for the actions. You tell your kids that honesty is the best policy. Jim Joyce accepted the fact that he made a mistake. His apology was accepted by Gallaraga & the Tigers. End of story.
Maybe we can all learn something from this situation.
