Wakefield Has Good Outing

Tim Wakefield pitched 5 scoreless innings against the Baltimore Orioles yesterday. With Dice-K scheduled to make a minor league start today for his first competition of the Spring it's a certainty that Wakefield will be the #5 starter to begin the season.

Tim has the ability to control an almost uncontrollable pitch - the knuckler. My dad use to play around with a knuckleball when we would play catch & it would go all over. Wake has mastered a pitch only a very few other have, names like Hoyt Wilhelm or Wilbur Wood. And as long as Wakefield has been pitching, he can still make batters look pretty bad at the plate when he's got it dancing up there.

If Wake can stay healthy, look for double digit wins & another season of eating up innings wherever the Sox need him - either as a starter or a long reliever. We are lucky to have such a versatile guy & one of such good character. Wake is a great ambassador for the game as was shown with his first All-Star selection last year.

Get ready to see the knuckler for another season in 2010.
