Shopping Time for Lowell

Mike Lowell is expected to get his first action in Florida on Monday. As soon as he gets between the lines, his new suitors will come a-callin.'

Lowell is a fan favorite for the way he has handled himself on & off the field. There were the trade rumors of 2009. Then came the signing of Adrian Beltre this off-season. Through it all Lowell has remained a professional with no bad-mouthing of the Red Sox brass.

I'm not alone when I say I hope no team picks him up & he stays with the Sox. He can the a back-up DH, a back-up 3B or a back-up 1B, along with a potent pinch-hitter. But logic says that won't happen.

Lowell would be an asset to any AL club looking for a DH. He would be an asset to any NL looking for a 1B / hitter. Mike should have several places to go & the Sox have already shown an interest in eating much of his salary.

It shouldn't take long for offers to come in once Lowell shows he is healthy. If he goes to another AL club, expect one huge ovation when he returns to Fenway Park.
