Nomar Garciaparra retired from baseball yesterday. He did so after signing a 1-day contract with the Boston Red Sox so he could officially retire as a member of the team he started with.
Nomar was a legend with the Sox from 1996 to 2004. Notwithstanding a bitter 2004 contract dispute & ultimate trade, he played with heart & soul for many years at shortstop. Nomar was compared to Jeter & A-Rod as the best offensive & defensive shortstops within the league. His return to Fenway in 2009 as a member of the A's was capped off with a standing "O" from the fans.
I think it was pretty classy on both sides to have Nomar retire as a Red Sox.
