Clay Buchholz had his first action of the Spring yesterday. Like Jon Lester, it didn't go as well as planned. But the main thing is getting the work in.
The second time around for Boof Bonser and Casey Kelly went very well. Both pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief. Both throw in low to mid 90's with excellent breaking balls & a change-up for good measure. A few more outing like that & it will make Tito's job tougher, especially since Bonser is looking to be a long reliever. The 20-year old Kelly will be sent to minors, just a question of what level.
Buccholz should get the #4 spot in the rotation based upon his performances from last August & September. Tim Wakefield & Dice-K are also circling the wagons to begin the year in the starting rotation. 3 guys for 2 spots. I bet that Buchholz gets one of them.
