Mark McGwire finally owned up to taking performance enhancing drugs for the first time yesterday. He said it was done to get his body healthy from numerous injuries.
McGwire was very emotional about his public confession. It was something he needed to do before assuming the role of hitting instructor for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Watching his press conference I saw a guy who was looking for forgiveness. It looked to me that he still had trouble coming to terms with his actions. It took longer for him to come forward than other players like A-Rod or Andy Pettitte. We're still waiting for Sammy Sosa & Roger Clemens.
I'm ready to move on. Maybe McGwire can be an example to the young Cardinal players of why it doesn't pay to take PED's.

Here's the real question, will Commissioner Selig wipe out all of Maguire's stats for the years he took steroids. As for all the admitted and caught PED users the record books should simply have their name, position and year of admitted use or failed test. Nothing else. After all you can't even list their weight as that like their numbers is inflated too.
I realize that this would leave a gapping hole in the record book but just because a decision is hard or unpopular it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be made.
