Talk radio is going at it today with the question of who the Red Sox should trade to get Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres. Would you move Ellsbury, Buchholz & prospects to get Gonzalez?
My thought is I don't think so. Like Casey Kelly, Ells just has too much upside to go in his career. He is a huge disruption, like Carl Crawford, when he gets on base. As a leadoff hitter, his best years are ahead of him.
Buchholz is coming into his own as well. Of the two, however, I would be OK with a package that included Buchholz & perhaps Westmoreland with other prospects to land a legitimate power hitter.
You might just see the whole situation stay on hold until the trading deadline. It would be interesting to see how far the Sox could go with their pitching & defense during the first half without another bat.
