A column in the local newspaper today indicates that Marco Scutaro will be Theo's pick to fill the annual void at shortstop for the Sox in 2010. The columnist indicated that Scutaro's offense included a low percentage of swings at balls out of the strike zone - which would fit in with the Sox's grind-it-out philosophy. (Is there anything that we don't have a stat for these days?)
The paper could be right though. Scutaro would be as good a pick as is out there. I know Michael Young's name was bantered about by a Boston writer, but he would be too expensive for the Red Sox taste. Hanley Ramirez coming back to Boston would be too expensive as well.
If it is Scutaro, I hope they get the deal done soon.
